Cataracts typically worsen gradually. Early cataracts may cause mild vision changes that are easy to compensate for with brighter lighting or updated glasses. As cataracts progress, vision loss becomes more noticeable and may interfere with daily activities such as reading, driving, or recognizing faces.
Importantly, cataracts do not need to reach an “advanced” stage before treatment is considered. Decisions about care are based on how vision affects quality of life, not just how cloudy the lens appears.
